Washington, D.C., November 2, 2007 - Today Citizens for Health announced its support for Common Cause's campaign to maintain "net neutrality".
"The Net Neutrally battle goes directly to the heart of the functioning of Citizens for Health," said James Turner, Chairman of the Board for Citizens for Health. "If we lose Net Neutrality we will loose the ability to communicate with our affiliated activists and they will lose their ability to communicate with Congress, the FDA and other decision makers. Support
this Common Cause Agenda item which is being supported by thousands of non profit organizations like Citizens across the country and across the political spectrum."

Background
With Election Day just one year away, media giants like large telephone and cable companies are working to privatize the Internet.
If they get their way, Internet service giants like Verizon, AT&T, and Comcast will become the robber barons of the World Wide Web and obliterate the longstanding principle of Net Neutrality, which says you should be able to access any lawful web content you choose. These media giants want to decide for you which websites you can and can't access based on which site pays them more. And, they are spending millions of dollars lobbying Congress to make sure it happens!
Net neutrality is the reason this democratic medium has grown exponentially, fueled innovation and altered how we communicate. We must make certain that for-profit interests do not destroy the democratic culture of the web, and we need to push back hard at the telecom lobbyists who want to write Internet freedom out of the law.

Losing Net Neutrality would be a disaster for our democracy, our culture and our economy. Small businesses, entrepreneurs, local governments, nonprofits and others would be locked out of a system controlled by the big telephone and cable companies. Google, and other free services that we enjoy today, will have to start paying hefty fees to the telephone and cable companies, and they will certainly pass those costs on to consumers.
We'll also lose the Internet as our "town square" -- where we talk to one another, exchange views, find information, blog, contact candidates and engage in our democracy. We will be left with an Internet that focuses only on selling commodities, at the expense of citizen engagement.
Citizens for Health is committed to harnessing the collective clout of the 150 million people in this country who use vitamins, supplements, and alternative health modalities every day. Net Neutrality is critical to reaching this goal, which is why we urge you to join us in support Common Cause's campaign. Click on the Take Action button below to read more and make your voice heard!
