Minneapolis, MN, October, 2008 - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and you've seen the ads by now. Yoplait has undertaken a campaign called Save Lids to Save Lives in which consumers are encouraged to look for the cups of Yoplait yogurt with pink foil lids. The company will donate 10 cents to the fight against breast cancer for every cup of yogurt with these special lids that consumers purchase.

Citizens for Health Opposes Irradiation of Produce

Washington, D.C., August 26, 2008 – Last week the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced its decision to allow the irradiation of fresh spinach and iceberg lettuce in an attempt to kill E. coli and other bacteria that cause food-borne illnesses. The move comes in response to a petition filed by The National Food Processors Association, a trade group representing major food companies, and ignores the concerns of scientists and consumers about how irradiation can affect the safety and nutritional value of food.   read more

TAKE ACTION CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: Stop the Residential Spraying of Pesticides in California

Northern California, April, 2008 - The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) plans to resume “emergency” aerial pesticide spraying of two synthetic pheromones, called Checkmate OLR-F and Checkmate LBAM-F, over the Central California Coast and the San Francisco Bay Area. The program began in 2007 in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties using a pheromone-based pesticide dispersed from low-flying planes in microscopic plastic capsules. The spraying could go on for months and years— possibly through mid-2010. read more
