This year, state and federal legislators took a much-needed deeper look at food safety. For consumers, this wave of newly proposed legislation signals a major cultural and regulatory shift: food safety is no longer just about bacteria or contamination — it’s about the chemicals and colors hidden in everyday products. While businesses may face reformulation costs, the consumer payoff is greater transparency, healthier school meals, and fewer synthetic dyes and additives in family diets.
- Safer food choices: If enacted, new laws would reduce exposure to dyes and additives linked to hyperactivity, allergies, or other health concerns.
- Clearer labels: Warning requirements empower consumers to make informed decisions, especially when U.S. standards lag behind Europe or Canada.
- National shift: Federal bills, if passed, would unify standards and eliminate many controversial dyes or additives from the food supply.
At Citizens for Health we end 2025, invigorated by the conversation and hopeful for a new year where food safety and health choice are top legislative priorities.
